If you watch CNN or Fox then you may have heard the news anchor talk about social networking sites Twitter, FaceBook, mySpace etc. Most understand the value of FaceBook and mySpace, i.e., staying in touch with friends and family online. But most don’t understand Twitter – most people look perplexed when I tell them about it and wonder what value this type of communication has. Well today was a historical event, this was the first online Tweet-a-Thon 2009 raising money for a great social cause – clean water!
The show had its glitches but the technology is still young! The greatest thing about the technology and what separates it from traditional media is the two way conversation! It gives people the ability to participate – you are no longer ‘watching’ something – you are sharing and participating not only with the guests real time but with the other hundreds of people who want to make a difference in the social cause!I predict this is the first of many ‘online’ thons – that will take place. Another thing that takes this to another level is the cost of entry into this market is not hundreds of thousands of dollars! I would estimate, to do it right it takes from 5,000 to 10,000! But if you’re on a shoe string – you can do this for under 500 bucks! So if you have a great cause you’d like to champion then jump in and start swimming!
This will be a good topic for an online seminar – titled, raising money for your favorite charity – produce a web-a-thon for FREE!Visit the site Tweet-a-Thon 2009 and donate today!
