Professional Journalists Code of Ethics

In a world where “alternate” facts are common and main stream media are telling lies, it is important to understand the news sources we can trust. But then we ask ourselves – who do we trust? The President tells us the media is lying to us. Yes, they are, in fact a source many of us watch, Fox News, spreads lies and propaganda while most of us never question the truthfulness of their stories/articles.

I’m here as a “citizen” journalist. I was not professionally trained in journalism, but do have a Master’s degree in Educational Technology so I am educated and can “write”, most of the time it is clear and consistent.

In my research I’ve found some interesting information I’ll be passing along to my readers or lack there of.

Did you know there is a group called the Society of Professional Journalists? Of course there is a group – they have a mission/ethics statement too.

Members of the Society of Professional Journalists believe that public enlightenment is the forerunner of justice and the foundation of democracy. Ethical journalism strives to ensure the free exchange of information that is accurate, fair and thorough. An ethical journalist acts with integrity.

The Society declares these four principles as the foundation of ethical journalism and encourages their use in its practice by all people in all media.
